George Benson — It’s Uptown

with the George Benson Quartet

Album cover and liner notes

Saturday morning vibes with the great George Benson. Recorded by John Hammond in 1966 featuring George on guitar and vocals, Lonnie Smith on Organ Jimmy Lovelace/Ray Lucas on drums, and Ronny Cuber on Bari sax. Killer organ jazz with a touch of 60s swankiness. $7 score somewhere. George really plays beyond his age here.

I met George once in Curacao at the North Sea Jazz festival Caribbean edition. Super nice guy, skin tight as a drum, rocking the classic pencil mustache, and a never-ending generous smile.
